Fear No Weevil

While we're on the subject of the animal kingdom: today I saw my very first Boll Weevil. Since they are such a big part of the history of this area and Enterprise, in particular (the main road through town is Boll Weevil Circle and the Boll Weevil Monument on Main Street is the only such monument dedicated to a pest, for example) I thought they'd be everywhere.

Apparently they are not. A friend who has lived in Enterprise since the 80s had never seen one.

Also - they are tiny! Not even the size of my pinky fingernail (which is pretty small).

So here is an extreme close up of the critter, walking around on the sidewalk.
